Mick Martyn was a key figure for Leigh during the 1950s and 1960s. A rampaging second row forward who knew his way to the tryline, Martyn topped the club’s try charts in five of his thirteen seasons, and still holds the record as the club’s all-time leading try scorer with 189. As a one-club man who spent his entire career with Leigh, his domestic honours were limited to a solitary Lancashire Cup win against Widnes in 1955. Despite this limited success, Martyn’s powerful and exciting running style made him a firm favourite amongst the Leigh supporters, and solidified his status as one of the club’s all-time greats.
