Jimmy Ledgard joined Leigh for a then-record fee of £2,650 from Dewsbury in 1948. One of the leading fullbacks of his generation, he was an expert at both place kicking and tactical kicking out of hand. His consistency with the boot saw him become the club’s all-time leading goal scorer with 1043. But Ledgard was also rock-solid defensively and possessed some of the safest hands in the business, earning him international recognition with selection for Great Britain. Despite a lack of any domestic silverware on his CV, Ledgard remains a true Leigh legend as one of the club’s greatest ever players.
