
Johnny Raper was a cornerstone of the Australian rugby league team, representing the Kangaroos from 1959 to 1968. A tough, skillful lock forward, he earned 39 Test caps and captained Australia on eight occasions, including a famous Ashes victory over Great Britain in 1967. Nicknamed “Chook”, Raper was renowned for his tireless work rate, leadership, and defensive brilliance. He was a key figure in multiple Kangaroo tours and became a symbol of Australian rugby league excellence. Inducted into the Rugby League Immortals, Raper remains one of the greatest forwards in the sport’s history.
