Arthur Beetson

Arthur Beetson was a trailblazer in rugby league, becoming the first Indigenous player to captain the Australian national team in any sport. Representing the Kangaroos between 1966 and 1977, he earned 29 Test caps as a powerful and skillful prop forward. Renowned for his ball-playing ability and leadership, he played a crucial role in Australia’s dominance during the 1970s, including victories in the 1973 and 1974 Ashes series over Great Britain, and World Cup wins in 1975 and 1977. A revered figure in the sport, he was later named among rugby league’s Immortals, cementing his legendary status.
