
Keith Elwell is widely regarded as one of Widnes’ greatest-ever players. A highly durable and versatile hooker, he made his debut for the club in 1970 and went on to become a cornerstone of their success throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Renowned for his incredible stamina, Elwell played in a club record 591 games for the ‘Chemics’, including a record run of 242 consecutive appearances – a sequence that lasted over five seasons. His career saw him win numerous honours, including the Championship title in 1978 and Challenge Cup victories in 1975, 1979, 1981 and 1984. Elwell’s consistent performances earned him international recognition, and a place in the Widnes Hall of Fame.
