Reg Bowden was a major influence for the fledgling Fulham club between 1980-84. Signed from Widnes for £25,000, he became the club’s player coach and captained the team in their inaugural season. An experienced halfback, he brought leadership and tactical awareness to the newly formed side, guiding them to a remarkable third-place finish in the Second Division and promotion to the top tier at the first attempt. Bowden’s influence on and off the field helped establish Fulham as a competitive force in the early years of professional rugby league in London, and was one of the first inductees to the club’s Hall of Fame.
