Max Tiri

Max Tiri was a stalwart of the Papua New Guinea team throughout the 1990s. A blockbusting forward nicknamed ‘The Hammer’, he terrorised defences with his powerful and damaging ball running that would skittle the opposition tacklers. Tiri’s consistency and longevity saw him become Papua New Guinea’s most capped player, representing the Kumuls in 21 test matches between 1990 and 1998, including the 1995 Rugby League World Cup. His ability to lead from the front saw him awarded the captaincy on multiple occasions, and his legacy endures as one of the most respected Kumuls players of all time.
