
Alf Ellaby was a prolific try-scoring winger for St Helens between 1926 and 1934. Blessed with blistering pace and superb finishing ability, he became one of the most feared wingers of his era. During his time at St Helens, Ellaby crossed for an incredible 271 tries in just 261 appearances, setting club records that stood for decades. He was nicknamed the ‘Hat-trick King’, having grabbed 31 for Saints, and set the club record for most tries in a match with six against Barrow in 1932 – a record that is yet to be broken. Ellaby remains one of St Helens’ all-time greats, remembered as a true legend of the club.
