Ernest Ward was a pivotal figure in Bradford’s post-war successes, making his debut in 1939 and going on to excel as a goal-kicking fullback, centre or second-row forward. Known for his excellent ball-handling skills and strategic kicking, Ward was integral to Bradford’s dominance during the 1940s. He played a key role in their Challenge Cup victories at Wembley Stadium in 1944, 1947 and 1949, even captaining the side to the latter triumph and earning the Lance Todd Trophy for his man-of-the-match performance. He was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame in September 2006.
