
Alan Prescott was a formidable player for St Helens between 1949 and 1960. Renowned for his toughness and leadership, he captained Saints to victory in the 1956 Challenge Cup final, helping secure a 13-2 win over Halifax and grabbing the man of the match award in the process. Prescott was a key figure in St Helens’ rise as a dominant force in the 1950s, guiding them to First Division Championship titles in 1953 and 1959. A tough and uncompromising prop forward with great ball-playing skills, he was both feared and respected by opponents, and was inducted in to the RFL Hall of Fame in 2024.
