John Joyner

John Joyner made his Castleford debut against Bramley in September 1972 – the first step of an illustrious playing career that spanned 20 years. Appearing as a centre, stand-off or loose forward, he represented the club in numerous finals in the 1970s and 80s, earning multiple Yorkshire Cup winners’ medals before being awarded the club captaincy in 1984. Joyner’s finest moment as captain came in the 1986 Challenge Cup final, when he led his team to a memorable 15-14 victory over Hull Kingston Rovers at Wembley Stadium. He retired in 1992 having become Castleford’s most capped player with 613 appearances.
