John Holmes is a true Leeds icon, with a career that spanned an incredible 21 years from his debut in 1968. A versatile player who could cover anywhere in the backs, Holmes’ vision and skill saw him earn a reputation as a prolific creator of tries for his teammates. He was a key figure in the club’s successes during the 1970s, with his game-winning drop goal in the 1978 Challenge Cup final against St Helens becoming part of Leeds folklore. Holmes’ loyalty to Leeds was unmatched, amassing a club record 625 appearances. In 2021, a statue was unveiled in his honour outside the South Stand at Headingley
