James Lomas

James Lomas was one of rugby league’s early superstars and a pioneering figure for Salford. Joining the club in 1901, Lomas was a versatile and skillful three-quarter who quickly became the heartbeat of the team. A strong kicker who slotted over more than 400 goals for the club, he was known for his innovative technique as the first player to stand the ball up on its end. Lomas also still holds the club record for most points in a game, scoring 39 against Liverpool City in 1907. His influence extended beyond the pitch as he later became a successful coach, helping to shape the future of the Salford club.
