
David Watkins joined Salford in 1967 and was a transformative figure for the club, quickly becoming one of the sport’s biggest stars. Playing as a stand-off, Watkins brought flair, creativity, and exceptional goal-kicking to the Red Devils. He was instrumental in the club’s success during the late 1960s and 1970s, helping Salford win two Championship titles in 1974 and 1976. Watkins kicked goals with metronomic consistency, and still holds a record by scoring in 92 consecutive matches. He scored over 2,900 points, making him Salford’s all-time leading scorer, and establishing him as a true legend of the club.
