Billy Batten

Billy Batten was a legendary figure for Hull FC, renowned as one of the greatest rugby league players of his era. Joining the club in 1913 for a then-record fee of £600, Batten quickly established himself as a dynamic and powerful centre. His exceptional speed, strength, and the ‘Batten Leap’ – his trademark technique of hurdling over would-be tacklers – made him a fan favourite. Batten was instrumental in guiding Hull to their 1914 Challenge Cup Final win and Championship titles in 1920 and 1921. He became a club icon, leaving an enduring legacy as one of the sport’s early superstars.
